Fabulous Flatware: Non-traditional Tools for the Table
Start: June 30, 2012 12:00 pm
End: 8:00 pm
Location: Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Description:
Fabulous Flatware: Non-Traditional Tools of the Table showcases innovative flatware designs from 1898 to 2011. Highlighting the imagination and creativity of the various designers and producers of flatware—the implements used for eating and serving food—the exhibition takes a new look at these everyday tools. Organized by themes such as “Eating Can Be Fun” (children’s flatware), “These Take the Cake” (pastry servers),” Espresso Anyone?” (coffee service flatware), and “Flatware That’s Not Flat” the forks, knives, spoons and serving pieces on display demonstrate the wide variety of styles, forms, materials and techniques available to decorate our tables. Accompanying the wonderfully diverse flatware pieces are various patterns of dinnerware and glassware providing a new look at the both practical and whimsical tools we use to feed our bodies. Drawn primarily from the collection of William P. Hood, M.D. of Dothan, Alabama, Fabulous Flatware: Non-Traditional Tools of the Table was organized by the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, University of Louisiana at Lafayette.www.mmfa.org
