Poarch Creek Indians Announce $246 Million Expansion

Big economic news for the city of Wetumpka. The Poarch Creek Indians have announced a new multi-million dollar expansion at their casino in the city.

The $246 million project is called Wind Creek Wetumpka.

The President of PCI Gaming calls the project a catalyst for riverfront development in Wetumpka.  It will be located along the Coosa River. It will include a 20 story hotel tower with 285 rooms, and a 90,000 square foot gaming floor with more than 2500 electronic gaming machines. The complex will also feature meeting rooms, and three different restaurants – one for fine dining, a buffet and a grill cafe and a terrace overlooking the river.

The current casino employs 400 people. The new addition will create another 600 jobs bringing the total number of workers to 1000.

Construction work has already started on the new complex.  Gaming officials say the first floor is expected to be complete by October 2013 and the rest of the facility is expected to be open by January 1, 2014.
